What is the difference between Arizona Shade Company shade structures and those sold by other companies?

Our structures are fabricated from steel in Arizona. Most (if not all) other companies sell shade structures made with Alumawood®, a registered brand name for aluminum patio covers. Alumawood® is less expensive than steel—and is much less durable than steel. For example, Alumawood® is made from thin-gauge (0.024-0.040″) aluminum that is rolled, embossed, and painted to resemble wood. It’s lightweight, flexible, and assembled in modular panels. While it won’t rot or warp, it can dent easily and flex in the wind. Alumawood® is very similar to the material rain gutters are made of. Steel, on the other hand, is extremely strong. Our structures will not move, bend, or dent—plus they will not fade, rust, or chalk. Arizona Shade Structures will last a lifetime.

Is there a charge for an estimate or quote?

No, we do not charge for estimates or quotes. We will come onsite to discuss your project ideas or, if you know exactly what you want, you can give us dimensions and we’ll shoot you an estimate. All projects are quoted before we start any work so you know exactly what to expect.

Are you bonded and insured?

Yes.

How long have you been in business?

Mike Gillis, the owner, has been designing, welding and fabricating for over 30 years. He started and operates TRU-Strength Fabrication, which builds fitness equipment for gyms across the US.

Where are you located?

We are located in Phoenix, AZ and in the Windsor, Ontario/Detroit, MI area, however we will travel anywhere in the US or Canada for projects of a larger scope. You can reach us at 602.888.9376 or email us at info@arizonashadecompany.com.

Are all of your projects custom built?

Yes. We design and fabricate the pieces ourselves so everything fits perfectly. This ensures you get exactly what you want. Nothing we do is “out of a box.”

Can I choose my own colors?

Yes. You can choose from a wide variety of colors for powder-coated steel, as well as aluminum or louvered roof tops. View color choices here.

How long will an Arizona Shade Structure last?

There is a lifetime warranty on steel framework and a 30-year warranty on aluminum roofs. Unlike shade kits sold by box stores, ours are extremely durable in the hot Arizona sun or frigid winter climates.

And, our structures will not blow away in a storm, unlike shade sales and other structures.

What if I want to adjust the amount of light under my shade canopy?

We offer Apollo® and Solara® louvered patio covers as an option for those who want to control the amount of light coming from above.  They are fully adjustable and can be opened and closed with a remote, by an app, or with voice control.

Do you build boat or car covers?

Yes! We can design and build any type of cover to protect your boat, RV, car, pool equipment, playground… whatever you want to protect from the elements.

Are shade structures like a pergola or gazebo?

Short answer – yes. Technically, pergolas have slatted roofs (which we can provide with an Apollo or Solara louvered cover), while gazebos have a solid roof.

If I move, can I take my shade structure with me?

We bolt our shade structures together, so they can be disassembled and moved.

Are your shade structures free-standing or attached?

We can build them either free-standing or attach to a home or other building.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes! Most definitely. We’ve provided shade structures for golf courses, pickleball courts, playgrounds—basically anywhere shade and protection are needed.

Do you have any financing options?

Yes! Financing is available through Synchrony.
